Science CTS Leader's Guide
The Leader's Guide to Science Curriculum Topic Study (Mundry, Keeley, and Landel, 2009) is designed to support leaders in facilitating the CTS process and its applications. Leaders include classroom teacher leaders, instructional coaches and mentors, curriculum coordinators and science specialists, informal educators, and anyone who supports teachers' learning. It offers designs and suggestions for using CTS in a variety of professional development configurations to improve teachers' content knowledge and various aspects of their curricular, instructional, and assessment work. The guide is designed to be used along with the parent book, Science Curriculum Topic Study-Bridging the Gap Between Standards and Classroom Practice (Keeley, 2005), to strengthen the ways national standards and research on learning are embedded within effective professional development strategies and teacher preparation programs.
CTS is a dynamic set of tools and resources. As we work with leaders in schools, organizations, and various science projects we continually develop new tools and materials to use with the Leader’s Guide. These are available for downloading on each of the chapter links to the left of this page. CTS users also design new ways to use CTS and some of these new tools and materials are shared on the chapter links. If you would like to share your designs, strategies, or tools for using CTS, please use the "Suggest a resource" and we will reply with further information. Check back often as new materials are added to this site.
There is a CD Rom included with the Leader's Guide that includes masters of all the handouts and powerpoint slides to accompany each chapter and the facilitation scripts.
